Singer and Union minister Babul Supriyo was booked by the Calcutta police on 10th May for sharing a “fake” photo on Twitter, purportedly showing chief secretary Rajiva Sinha sharing drinks with some people including Kartik Banerjee, brother of Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The case was filed after Supriyo shared the picture on 8th May. Some of the sections under which he was booked are non-bailable. Others who shared the photo have been similarly booked. Kartik Banerjee issued a statement condemning the social media post and said that he would take legal action as he described the post as being “completely fake”. He said, he condemned such irresponsible behaviour. Sharing fake posts/photos is a punishable crime.
Babul said, he had shared what was already viral. He termed the state’s police an extension of the Trinamool Congress party.
