The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed a hike in theatre tax for multiplexes and single-screen cinemas. The proposal is to hike it to Rs. 1,000 per show for super-deluxe multiplexes from the existing Rs. 66. The theatre tax for airconditioned cinema halls is being planned at Rs. 200 per show in place of Rs. 66. For non-airconditioned cinemas, the new rate is proposed at Rs. 150 per show instead of Rs. 50 as present.
