Superstar Rajinikanth, who was all set to announce on December 31 the date of the launch of his political party, will not do so after all. In fact, he does not intend to get into active politics. His recent hospitalisation seems to have deterred Rajini from taking part in active politics. “With extreme sadness, I say that I can’t enter politics. I alone know the pain I went through while announcing this decision,” he said in a statement today (December 29), two days after being discharged from a Hyderabad hospital where he had been admitted on 25th December for fluctuating blood pressure and exhaustion. He said, the hospitalisation was a warning given by God.
The superstar, however, said that he would serve the people without entering electoral politics. He apologised to his fans and people who were so looking forward to his electoral debut. Although Rajini had set up the Rajini Makkal Mandram party only two years ago to practise what he referred to as “spiritual politics”, his admirers had as far back as a quarter of a century expected him to enter politics. A letter, supposedly written by him recently, had triggered speculation that he was delaying his entry into politics for health reasons. The superstar denied that the letter was his although he added that the information in the said letter — that his immune system had been weak after a renal transplant, which made him more susceptible to the coronavirus — was correct.
