Actress Shruti Das has lodged a police complaint after being trolled for her dusky skin tone. She plays the character of Noah in web series Desher Mati (Bengali). According to her, the online abuse started since she bagged the role in 2019, and became more and more vicious as the series started to get popular.
According to her complaint, the trolls accuse her of manipulating her partner, who is a director, to get this role as, otherwise, it would have been impossible for a dusky person like her to get such a chance. She tagged the Calcutta police in a social media post on 1st July. She has also complained to the cyber police via an email, as directed to do.
The Calcutta police have initiated a probe. Leena Gangopadhyay, chairperson of the West Bengal Commission For Women, who is also the script writer of the serial, felt that strong laws were needed to deal with such attacks.
