Writer-director Abhik Bhanu recently launched a historical drama, 1922 Pratikar Chauri Chaura. It is being produced under the banner of Sarayu Vision and co-produced by Anju Khare. Chauri Chaura is a town near Gorakhpur and Deoria in Uttar Pradesh. In the year 1922, in British-India and during the non-cooperation movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, Indian protesters set a police station afire and killed at least 22 policemen in protest against the police firing on a large group of demonstrators. Nineteen arrested freedom fighters were sentenced to death and 14, to life imprisonment by the British colonial authorities.
