ANSALS CAN’T USE POINT OF OLD AGE FOR RELIEF: DELHI POLICE | 12 January, 2022

The Delhi police on January 11 opposed any kind of relief from the Delhi high court to Sushil and Gopal Ansal in the Uphaar cinema fire tragedy evidence tampering case. The police alleged that the two owners of the cinema had made every attempt to delay the trial in the evidence tampering case. The police added that they could, therefore, not use the ground of old age for suspension of their seven-year jail terms.

Uphaar cinema had caught fire on June 13, 1997 during a show of Border. Fifty-nine people had died in the fire while more than 100 persons were injured in the stampede that followed.
