Anupam Kher last week inaugurated the playground on plot no. 3, Juhu Vile Parle Development (JVPD) Scheme in Bombay, which has been named after veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar.
The Gulmohar Residents’ Welfare Association, Save Open Spaces NGO and activist-architect P.K. Das fought a 25-year battle to save this open space (plot no. 3) as also another on plot no. 6 in the same vicinity. The matter reached the Supreme Court which in 2020 upheld the citizens’ plea that both the plots, owned by MHADA, were open spaces and no construction could be allowed on them.
