Dharmendra campaigned for wife Hema Malini at Mathura (in Uttar Pradesh) from where she is contesting the general elections for the second time, on a BJP ticket, on 14th April. The star-MP is facing anti-incumbency as farmers and local Jats are miffed with the government. Dharmendra, who was himself a former MP from Bikaner in Rajasthan, jocularly remarked in Mathura, “Gaon waalon, Basanti ko agar vote nahin diya toh chadh jaoonga paani ki tanki par.” (“If you do not vote for Basanti (name of Hema Malini’s character in Sholay), I will climb the water tank (alluding to his scene in Sholay)”).
