Mingle ‘N’ Jingle Production’s Kora Kagazz is the story of three people who are struggling in life. Sandhya (Aishani Yadav) has a dark past and is in a juvenile home. The warden of the juvenile home is Divya (Swastika Mukherjee). The juvenile home is cash-strapped. To raise funds, Divya seeks the help of Vivek (Rajat Kapoor) who is a stage artiste and whose wife and son live separately. It is decided to stage a play starring the inmates of the juvenile home. Since Sandhya writes poetry, Vivek asks her to write one for the stage-play. However, a misunderstanding at Divya’s end complicates matters. On the other hand, Sandhya’s thoughts on family and its importance changes Vivek’s perspective of life. What happens thereafter?
Donna Laemmlen and Nawneet Ranjan have written a story which is quite depressing as nobody in the story seems to be happy. Every character in the story is fighting some battle or the other. The duo’s screenplay is alright but again, the fact remains that rather than entertaining, the morose drama serves to make the viewers feel sad and depressed. The dialogues, written by the two, are okay.
Aishani Yadav does well as Sandhya. Rajat Kapoor is supremely natural in the role of Vivek. He lives the character. Swastika Mukherjee performs ably as Divya. Meenal Kapoor is alright as Vivek’s wife, Aarushi. Namrata Kapoor (as Firdaus), Neha Gupta (as Rita), Ashutosh Jha (as Ashok), Soniya Jha (as Suhani), Brijesh Karanwal (as Shyam), Alka Rathor (as Alpa), Priya Waghmare (as Shivani), Vanya Joshi (as Poonam), Gauri Shankar (as Jaswant), Neena Dalal (as Neha) and Praveen Pachor Sonar (as Rohan) lend ordinary support.
Nawneet Ranjan’s direction is so-so. Shruti Mariya Datar’s choreography is nothing to write home about. Background music (by Aishwarya Malgave) is quite effective. Durga Chitrak’s camerawork is alright. Production designing (Sushant Sawant and Ravin Karde) is okay. Kaushik Das’ editing is quite nice.
On the whole, Kora Kagazz is meant for the festival circuit more than the commercial circuit.
