Focus Features and Blum House Productions’ Obsession (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name) is a horror film.
Baron ‘Bear’ Bailey (Michael Johnston) and Nikki Freeman (Inde Navarrette) are in love with one another. Their colleagues are Ian (Cooper Tomlinson) and Sarah (Megan Lawless). One night, in a moment of passion, Nikki behaves so weirdly that Bear is shocked. And scared too! Nikki has also lied to Bear that her father is suffering from cancer.
Nikki’s behaviour keeps getting weirder with each passing day. What happens finally? Bear also seeks the help of One Wish Willow Customer Service which allows him to reverse his wish. But does that help in Bear either breaking free from Nikki or getting her cured?
Curry Barker has written a story which is quite scary. It starts in a normal fashion, but sends chills down the viewer’s spine once Nikki’s behaviour gets weird. Curry Barker’s screenplay is extremely interesting and engaging. The horror scenes have been written so beautifully that they take the audience by surprise and frighten them. The last about 30 minutes of the drama are truly horrifying.
Michael Johnston is natural as Bear. His dubbing by Varun Dhawan is average. Varun needs to take care of his diction because his hoon is often hoo and his kyun becomes kyu. The nasal sound is often missing in key words. Inde Navarrette does a brilliant job of Nikki. Kriti Sanon deserves kudos for doing an admirable job of the dubbing for Inde Navarrette. Cooper Tomlinson (as Ian), Megan Lawless (as Sarah), Andy Richter (as Carter), Haley Fitzgerald (as Viola) and the others do as desired.
Curry Barker’s direction is very good. Rock Burwell’s background music is impactful. The film has been appropriately shot. Editing is sharp. Dubbing is good.
On the whole, Obsession is an enjoyable fare.
