Jio Studios, Arth Creation, Arora Productions and Namrata Arts’ Unaad (Marathi; UA) is the story of three good-for-nothing friends.
Shubham (Ashutosh Gaikwad), Bandya (Abhishek Bharate) and Jamil (Chinmay Jadhav) are friends. Shubham’s dad is a fisherman and he wants Shubham to join him in the business. But Shubham doesn’t want to get into the fishing business.
Shubham meets Swara (Hemal Ingle) and assumes that she loves him. But the fact is that Swara does not love him. One day, Shubham mistakes Swara’s sister, Shivani (Priyanka Tendolkar), for Swara. He shoots a video of Shivani and Parag (Avinash Khedekar) on Jamil’s phone. This video goes viral. The consequences which follow are difficult for Shubham to handle. What are they?
Saurabh Bhave has written an ordinary story which doesn’t involve the viewers much. His screenplay, with Kalyani Pandit’s additional screenplay, doesn’t really add up to much. The drama, therefore, looks like an assemblage of half-baked scenes. There is no romance in the script which is also bereft of comedy and emotions. Kalyani Pandit’s dialogues are average.
Ashutosh Gakiwad acts ably in the role of Shubham. Abhishek Bharate is alright as Bandya. Chinmay Jadhav is okay as Jamil. Hemal Ingle does a fair job as Swara. Avinash Khedekar has his moments as Parag. Priyanka Tendolkar is ordinary as Swara’s sister, Shivani. Devika Daftardar provides average support as Bandya’s mother. Others are passable.
Aditya Sarpotdar’s direction is good. It is better than the script. Gulraj Singh’s music comprises two fairly good songs and two ordinary ones. Lyrics (Guru Thakur and Kshitij Patwardhan) are alright. Background music is so-so. Lawrence D’Cunha’s camerawork is appealing. Mahesh Kudalkar’s sets are fair. Faisal Mahadik and Imran Mahadik’s editing could’ve been sharper.
On the whole, Unaad is too ordinary to make a mark.
Released on 8-7-’23 on JioCinema.
