PM Narendra Modi could not do much in its first week and although it got a boost due to Modi’s election victory a day before its release, the overall collections were not exciting enough. It started slow with a take of Rs. 2.35 crore. Collections increased to Rs. 3.25 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 4.65 crore on Sunday. After a weekend of Rs. 10.25 crore, the collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.15 crore. By adding Rs. 6.40 crore during the weekdays, it took its total to Rs. 16.65 crore.

India’s Most Wanted, as expected, faced rejection from the public in the first week. It netted a meagre Rs. 1.75 crore on the opening day. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were hardly impressive – Rs. 2.50 crore and Rs. 3 crore respectively. With the weekend closing at Rs. 7.25 crore, it was clear that the film had no future, and collections during the weekdays only proved that: Monday – Rs. 0.95 crore, Tuesday – Rs. – 0.85 crore, Wed­nesday – Rs. 0.70 crore, Thurs­day – Rs. 0.35 crore. By adding Rs. 2.85 crore in the weekdays, the film took its first week’s total to an unexciting Rs. 10.10 crore.

Yeh Hai India proved a debacle in 1st week.

On The Ramp Never Ending Show failed to show strength at the box-office in the first week.

Kadke Kamaal Ke did anything but kamaal at the ticket windows. It fared miserably in 1st week.

Aladdin(dubbed) did quite well in the first week. It netted Rs. 4.15 crore on the first day. Collections picked up on Saturday (Rs. 6.35 crore) and Sunday (Rs. 7.50 crore) so that the first weekend closed at Rs. 18 crore. The collections maintained well during the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 3.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.15 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.50 crore. Adding Rs. 12.15 crore in the weekdays, it took its first week’s total to Rs. 30.15 crore.

De De Pyaar De fared better in its second week than the two Bollywood releases of last week did in their first week. It started its second weekend with a net collection of Rs. 3 crore. Collections on Saturday (Rs. 4.50 crore) and Sunday (Rs. 5.35 crore) were impressive. The total for the sec­ond weekend was Rs. 12.85 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.20 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.70 crore. In other words, it added Rs. 8.40 crore to its kitty in the weekdays. Its total for the second week was Rs. 21.25 crore. The grand total for 2 weeks went up to Rs. 76.90 crore.

Student Of The Year 2 netted only Rs. 1.50 crore in its third week. Its total for 3 weeks is Rs. 64.90 crore.

Avengers: Endgame (dubbed) and the English original of the same name added Rs. 3.20 crore to its kitty in its fifth week. Its grand total for 5 weeks was Rs. 370.30 crore.

The Tashkent Files completed 50 days of its run yesterday (May 31) when it entered 8th week – a rare feat for a small film.

Judgement (Marathi) failed to make any mark in the first week in Bombay, Thane district and other centres of Maharashtra.

Halgi Shaan Maharashtrachi (Marathi) proved a damp squib in the first week in Bombay, Thane district and other stations of Maharashtra.

None of the new releases of this week could take a great initial. While INDIA’S MOST WANTED opened to poor houses, PM NARENDRA MODI and ALADDIN (English and Hindi dubbed) started better but not good enough.

De De Pyaar De did decently well in 1st week after an ordinary opening. It netted Rs. 1.15 crore in paid previews in multiplexes on Thursday. It managed only Rs. 8.25 crore on Friday but due to positive word of mouth, collections grew almost 50% on Saturday (Rs. 12.25 crore). Sunday ended at Rs. 13.85 crore. The weekend, therefore, closed at Rs. 35.50 crore (including paid previews). Collections during the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 5.65 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 5.40 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 5 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.10 crore. In other words, it added Rs. 20.15 crore during the weekdays, taking the first week’s total to Rs. 55.65 crore.

Gunwali Dulhaniya fared very poorly in 1st week in Bombay and Delhi-U.P.

Savdhan Ek Adbhut Kahaani could not impress the paying public in the first week.

Grihalakshmi The Awakening performed miserably at the ticket counters in the first week.

Student Of The Year 2 fell more than 80% in the second week. It collected Rs. 1.50 crore on Friday. Collections did not show a jump on Saturday (Rs. 2 crore) or Sunday (Rs. 2.50 crore). It collected just Rs. 6 crore in the second weekend. Its fate in the weekdays was no better. It collected Rs. 1.10 crore on Monday, Rs. 1 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 0.95 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 0.85 crore on Thursday. In this way, the film added Rs. 3.90 crore to its kitty during the weekdays. Its total for the second week was Rs. 9.90 crore only. Its grand total for 2 weeks was Rs. 63.40 crore.

Poké­mon Detective Pikachu (dubb­ed) and the English original of the same name collected Rs. 0.50 crore on the first day of the second weekend. Collections increased to Rs. 0.95 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 1 crore on Sunday, taking the second weekend’s total to Rs. 2.45 crore. Collections on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were Rs. 0.35 crore each while on Thursday, the figure was Rs. 0.30 crore. Hence, the film netted Rs. 1.35 crore during the weekdays. Its total for the second week was Rs. 3.80 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 11.25 crore.

Avengers: Endgame (dubbed) and the English original of the same name managed to stay afloat in the fourth week. It netted Rs. 1.10 crore on Friday. Collections jumped to Rs. 2.10 crore on Saturday. The figure for Sunday was Rs. 2.20 crore. In this way, the fourth weekend generated a revenue of Rs. 5.40 crore. It collected Rs. 0.85 crore on Monday, Rs. 0.80 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 0.80 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 0.65 crore on Thursday. It, therefore, added Rs. 3.10 crore to its kitty during the weekdays. Its total for the fourth week was Rs. 8.50 crore.

The Tashkent Files managed to yield shares in the sixth week also, which is truly creditable.

Rampaat (Marathi) did fair business in the first week in Bombay, Thane district and the rest of Maharashtra.

De De Pyaar De took a lukewarm start on Thursday (paid previews) this week. Collections on Friday started slow but positive mouth publicity help­ed collections increase as the day progressed.

Student Of The Year 2 could not live up to the expectations of the first part, SOTY. Although it did well in the first weekend, collections declined quite a bit on Monday. The onset of Ramzan also adversely affected coll­ections but the main reason were the bad public reports of the film. It coll­ected Rs. 11 crore on Friday, which was less than expected. Collections increased to Rs. 13 crore on Saturday but dropped to Rs. 11.50 crore on Sunday. The elections in North India and the IPL cricket final match on Sunday were also responsible for Sunday’s collections being lower than those on Saturday. The weekend total of Rs. 35.50 crore was not upto the mark but what was more frightening was the poor word of mouth for the film. Collections during the weekdays, as expected, dropped fast. It netted Rs. 5.25 crore on Monday, Rs. 4.85 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 4.30 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 3.60 crore on Thursday, taking the total for the weekdays to Rs. 18 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 53.50 crore.

Never Give Up had to give up its battle at the box-office due to poor patronage in the first week.

Chhal fared miserably in 1st week in Bombay.

Chhota Bheem Kung Fu Dhama­ka (animation) did ordinary business in the first week. It netted Rs. 1.77 crore in the weekend, and Rs. 0.83 crore during the weekdays. Its week closed at Rs. 2.60 crore.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu (dubbed) and the English original of the same name did fair business in 1st week. It collected Rs. 1 crore on Friday, Rs. 1.75 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 1.70 crore on Sunday. Its total for the first weekend was Rs. 4.45 crore. Collections on Monday and Tuesday were Rs. 0.80 crore each while on Wednesday and Thursday, they were Rs. 0.70 crore each. By adding Rs. 3 crore to the kitty during the weekdays, it took the first week’s total to Rs. 7.45 crore.

Avengers: Endgame (dubbed) and the English original of the same name continued to score in the third week. It collected Rs. 2.75 crore on Friday. Collections almost doubled on Satur­day which closed at Rs. 5.25 crore. Sunday also ended at Rs. 5.25 crore. The third weekend’s total, therefore, was Rs. 13.25 crore. Collections in the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.80 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.70 crore, Thurs­day – Rs. 1.50 crore. The addition of Rs. 7 crore during the weekdays made the third week’s total go up to Rs. 20.25 crore. The grand total for 3 weeks was a fabulous Rs. 358.60 crore.

The Tashkent Files added Rs. 1.65 crore to its kitty in 5th week. Its total for 5 weeks: Rs. 16.04 crore.

Ek Hota Pani (Marathi) went thirsting for the public which didn’t come in decent numbers in the first week in Bombay, Thane district and other sta­tions of Maharashtra.

Blank could not do well at the box-office in its first week. It started very slow, picked up slightly during the weekend but crashed during the weekdays. It opened with a net collection of Rs. 0.65 crore. Collections in­creased to Rs. 0.95 crore on Satur­day, and further to Rs. 1.35 crore on Sunday. Hence its total for the first weekend was a paltry Rs. 2.95 crore. Collections during the weekdays were plain poor: Monday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.30 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.22 crore. By adding Rs. 1.17 crore to the kitty in the weekdays, the film took its total for the first week to a dull Rs. 4.12 crore.

Setters failed miserably in 1st week all over. At most of the places, it was discontinued either mid-week or after a week’s run.

1978 met with a disastrous fate in the first week all over.

Avengers: Endgame (dubbed) and the English original of the same name fell by around 71% but it still managed a fantastic net collection of Rs. 77.95 crore in the second week. It netted Rs. 12.50 crore on the first day of the second weekend. Collections jumped to Rs. 18.30 crore on Satur­day, and to Rs. 21.75 crore on Sun­day. In this way, the film netted Rs. 52.55 crore in the second weekend. Collections dropped quite dramatically from Monday with the onset of Ramzan. The figures during the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 8.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 6.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 5.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.90 crore. In other words, it added Rs. 25.40 crore during the weekdays, taking its second week’s total to Rs. 77.95 crore. In this way, its total for 2 weeks was a phenomenal Rs. 338.35 crore. By joining the 300-crore club on the 10th day, it became the first Hollywood film to do so.

Kalank is in its last lap after its coll­ections dropped to rock-bottom levels in 3rd week. It could add only Rs. 1.25 crore during the third week, taking its 3-week total to Rs. 81.08 crore.

The Tashkent Files continued its victory march in 4th week too. Its slow start nothwitstanding, it has grown from strength to strength and has managed a total of Rs. 14.35 crore at the end of 4 weeks. It collected Rs. 1.75 crore during the fourth weekend, and another Rs. 1.15 crore during the weekdays. By adding Rs. 2.90 crore in the fourth week to its kitty, it took its 4-week total to Rs. 14.39 crore.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME has done outstanding business in the first week and is going sensationally strong in its second week too.

Tarpan failed miserably in the first week in Bombay as well as Delhi-U.P.

Avengers: Endgame (dubbed), its English original of the same name and the Tamil dubbed and Telugu dubbed versions did phenomenally well in 1st week, smashing a lot of old records and creating new ones. It netted Rs. 53.60 crore on the opening day, surpassing the first day of Thugs Of Hindostan (Rs. 52.25 crore). It collected Rs. 52.20 crore on Saturday, and Rs.52.85 crore on Sunday, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 158.65 crore!! Collections during the weekdays were also sensational: Monday – Rs. 31.05 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 26.10 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 28.50 crore (partial holiday for Labour Day and Maharashtra Day), Thursday – Rs. 16.10 crore. Its total for the weekdays was Rs. 101.75 crore. The grand total for the first week, therefore, was a mind-boggling Rs. 260.40 crore!

Kalank crashed all over in 2nd week. As against Rs. 74.55 crore in the first week (of 9 days), it collected only Rs. 5.28 crore in the second week – a drop of more than 90%!! It collected only Rs. 0.70 crore on the first day of the second weekend owi­ng to the opposition of the newly-rele­ased Avengers: Endgame and also because of its poor public reports. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 1.15 crore and Rs. 1.50 crore respectively. It took the second weekend’s total to a dismal Rs. 3.35 crore. Collections during the week­days were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.63 crore, Thurs­day – Rs. 0.35 crore. It thus added Rs. 1.93 crore to its kitty during the week­days. In this way, its second week’s total was Rs. 5.28 crore. The grand total for 2 weeks was, therefore, only Rs. 79.83 crore.

The Tashkent Files continued to score in the big cities in its third week despite the opposition of Avengers: Endgame. It collected Rs. 0.40 crore on the first day of the third weekend. Collections increased to Rs. 0.65 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 0.90 crore on Sunday. After collecting Rs. 1.95 crore in the third weekend, it collected as follows in the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Thurs­day – Rs. 0.40 crore. In other words, its total for the weekdays was the same as in the weekend – Rs. 1.95 crore – which is quite unusual! In this way, the film added Rs. 3.90 crore to its kitty and took its 3-week total to a respec­table Rs. 11.49 crore.

The initial of AVENGERS: ENDGAME (English as well as Hindi dubbed) this week is phenomenal, and with the public reports being equally outstanding, the film is set to write new box-office history. This, despite being released only in 2K cinemas.

Kalank faced rejection from the paying public and proved a major dis­appointment at the turnstiles. Althou­gh it will just about cover its cost, the fate of the film at the box-office is terrible. It opened well on Wednesday (April 17) but the cracks started show­ing on the first day itself. The down­ward slide of collections from the sec­ond day sealed the film’s fate! It was expected to touch the Rs. 150-crore mark in the first week (of 9 days) but it reached exactly half of that!! The opening in Overseas was also good but the drop in collections after the weekend was perceptible. In India, after the film netted Rs. 20 crore on the first day (Wednesday, Mahavir Jayanti partial holiday) and only Rs. 10.50 crore on day 2 (Thursday), it collected only Rs. 10.75 crore on the third day despite the Good Friday holi­day. Collec­tions on Saturday (Rs. 9.25 crore) and Sunday (Rs. 11 crore) were rather pathetic. As the word of mouth was terrible, collections crash­ed during the weekdays. It netted Rs. 3.75 crore on Monday, Rs. 3.60 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 3.10 crore on Wed­nesday, and Rs. 2.60 crore on Thursday. In other words, the film added just Rs. 13.05 crore to the weekend (5-day) total of Rs. 61.50 crore, giving a first week (9 days) total of only Rs. 74.55 crore. The film is not expected to reach even the 100-crore mark! Abroad, it grossed an equivalent of Rs. 33.60 crore in the first 5-day weekend, after which coll­ections slumped.

Shaapit Stree (dubbed) and the English original, The Curse Of The Weeping Woman, performed ordina­rily in the first week. It opened on Thursday with a tally of Rs. 0.75 crore. Collections increased to Rs. 1.25 crore on Friday, and further to Rs. 1.40 crore on Saturday. The increase on Sunday wasn’t much and the day closed at Rs. 1.50 crore. In this way, the 4-day weekend’s total was Rs. 4.90 crore. Collections on Monday and Tuesday were Rs. 0.65 crore and Rs. 0.55 crore respectively. On Wed­nesday, it netted Rs. 0.45 crore while on Thursday, Rs. 0.40 crore. It therefore, added Rs. 2.05 crore in the weekdays. Its first week’s (8 days) total was, therefore, Rs. 6.95 crore.

The Tashkent Files grew stronger in the second week because of favou­rable public reports. Its performance at many places was better in 2nd week than in 1st week, which is a rarity! It collected Rs. 0.45 crore on the first day of the second weekend. Collections increased to Rs. 0.70 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 1 crore on Sunday. After a second weekend total of Rs. 2.15 crore, collections in the weekdays were also impressive: Monday – Rs. 0.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.58 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.42 crore. Hence, it added Rs. 1.95 crore to its kitty in the weekdays, taking the second week’s total to Rs. 4.10 crore. The grand total for 2 weeks was Rs. 7.59 crore.

R.A.W. collected Rs. 0.85 crore in the third weekend, and another Rs. 0.47 crore during the weekdays. By adding Rs. 1.32 crore to the kitty in 3rd week, its total for 3 weeks went up to Rs. 39.02 crore.

Kesari netted Rs. 1 crore in the fifth weekend, and Rs. 0.56 crore during the weekdays. The fifth week’s total of Rs. 1.56 crore took its grand total to Rs. 153.59 crore.

The opening of KALANK on an odd day (Wednesday, due to partial holiday for Mahavir Jayanti) was very good but collections fell 50% on the second day, indicating that the film was not appreciated by the majority.

Kalank netted Rs. 20 crore on the first day (Wednesday), partly due to the huge star cast, hit music and grand promotion and partly because of the Mahavir Jayanti holiday. As was ex­pected, collections dropped on the second day which was not a holiday. However, the drop on day 2 (almost 50%) was alarming. It netted just Rs. 10.75 crore. The question now beg­ging answers is: will the film even join the 100-crore club? Going by the negative word of mouth for the period drama, it seems unlikely that it will touch the 100-crore figure. Overseas, it opened (on Wednesday) at $740,000. Collections increased to $910,000 on day 2. The two days’ total of $1.65 million (Rs. 11.55 crore) is fairly good. Overseas trade is of the opinion that Karan Johar’s multi-starrer may gross an equivalent of Rs. 75 crore abroad, which would mean a share of about Rs. 35 crore. The film, made at an in­vestment of Rs. 150 crore, had al­ready recovered Rs. 90 crore from sale of satellite, digital and audio rights. In other words, it would break even if its share from India and Over­seas cinemas would be around Rs. 60 crore.

The Tashkent Files started off with a collection of Rs. 0.40 crore. Collec­tions doubled (Rs. 0.80 crore) on the second day. The total for Sunday was Rs. 1 crore. After a weekend of Rs. 2.20 crore, the collections for the weekdays were steady: Monday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.36 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.30 crore, Thurs­day – Rs. 0.28 crore. In this way, the film netted Rs. 1.29 crore during the weekdays, taking the first week’s total to Rs. 3.49 crore.

Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyun Aata Hai? fared very poorly in the first week.

After a week­end of Rs. 2.70 crore, it collected Rs. 0.35 crore on Monday, Rs. 0.30 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 0.15 crore on Wed­nesday, and Rs. 0.12 crore on Thurs­day. Its total for the four weekdays was, therefore, Rs. 0.92 crore. The first week ended at Rs. 3.62 crore.

R.A.W. added Rs. 7.70 crore to its kitty in the second week. It collected Rs. 1.25 crore on the first day of the second weekend. Collections picked up on Saturday (Rs. 2 crore) and even more on Sunday (Rs. 2.35 crore). The second weekend, therefore, closed at Rs. 5.60 crore. Collections in the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.85 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.30 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.20 crore. Hence, it added Rs. 2.10 crore during the weekdays. In this way, its total for the second week was Rs. 7.70 crore. The grand total for 2 weeks was, therefore Rs. 37.70 crore.

Shazam! (dubbed) and the Eng­lish original of the same name netted Rs. 0.70 crore on the first day of the second weekend. Collections increa­sed to Rs. 1.30 crore on Saturday. The Sunday figure was Rs. 1.25 crore. Hence it netted Rs. 3.25 crore in the second weekend. Collections during the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Thurs­day – Rs. 0.20 crore. It, therefore, coll­ected Rs. 1.35 crore during the week­days. Thus, its total for the second week was Rs. 4.60 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 21.10 crore.

Kesari managed average collections in 4th week. It netted Rs. 0.70 crore on Friday, Rs. 1.30 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 1.70 crore on Sun­day, so that its fourth weekend closed at Rs. 3.70 crore. Collections during the weekdays were as follows: Mon­day – Rs. 0.55 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.55 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.30 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.17 crore. By adding Rs. 1.57 crore to its kitty dur­ing the weekdays, the film took its fourth week’s total to Rs. 5.27 crore. Its grand total for 4 weeks was Rs. 152.03 crore.

Badla netted Rs. 1.20 crore in the sixth weekend, and Rs. 0.49 crore in the weekdays. Its total for 6th week was, therefore, Rs. 1.69 crore. Grand total for 6 weeks: Rs. 87.82 crore.

The jump in collections on Sunday was around 35% over the Saturday collections. The third day, therefore, closed at Rs. 6.05 crore, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 13.85 crore. Collections on the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2.40 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.90 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.55 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.50 crore. Notebook has proved to be a disaster. It opened extremely slow, picked up during the weekend but did nothing substantial. It fared poorly during the weekdays. It opened with a collection of Rs. 0.50 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 0.75 crore and Rs. 1 crore respectively. In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 2.25 crore. Collections during the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.42 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.37 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.34 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.32 crore. By adding Rs. 1.45 crore to the kitty during the weekdays, the film took its first week’s total to only Rs. 3.70 crore.
