BJP MP Sanghmitra Maurya has filed a complaint with Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla for disqualifying Trinamool Congress MP and actress Nusrat Jahan Ruhi for giving wrong information in her affidavit in Parliament. The BJP MP has referred to Nusrat’s recent statement that her marriage with estranged partner Nikhil Jain was null and void because it was not registered in India after being performed in a foreign country.
Nusrat had recently said that since an inter-faith marriage required registration in India, which wasn’t done, it clearly meant that it was not a marriage but instead a live-in relationship, so the question of divorce did not arise. Maurya termed Nusrat Jahan’s conduct “unethical” and said, she had deceived her voters on the issue of her marriage and had tarnished the image of Parliament and undermined its dignity.
