‘FREE HIT DANKA’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 17 December, 2021

SGM Film’s Free Hit Danka (Marathi; UA) is the story of a girl and boy from two different villages. The two villages are at loggerheads since long because of a cricket tournament. To the dismay of the residents of both the villages, Santya (Somnath Avghade) who hails from one village, falls in love with Indu (Apoorva Shelgaonkar) from the other village. A cricket match will decide the future of the lovers.

Sunil Govind Magare’s story is unconvincing. His screenplay lacks fire and, therefore, fails to engage the viewers. The angle of a cricket match being played to decide something, simply does not appeal. The drama lacks heartwarming emotions. Romance is devoid of excitement and thrill. Comedy is weak. Sanjay Navgire’s dialogues are fair.

Somnath Avghade is average as Santya. Apoorva Shelgaonkar is so-so in the role of Indu. Tanaji Galgunde does an ordinary job as Rangya. Arbaz Shaikh delivers a routine performance as Vikas. Suresh Vishwakarma, Anil Nagarkar, Ganesh Deshmukh, Dr. Sudhir Nikam, Pranali Dhaware, Pratibha Wale and Chitra Kulkarni provide ordinary support.

Sunil Govind Magare’s direction is too basic and lacklustre to make an impact on the audience. Music (Baban Adagale and Ashok Kamble) is commonplace. Sanjay Navgire’s lyrics are okay. Sujit Kumar’s song picturisations are fair. Baban Adagale’s background music is nothing to write home about. Veer Dhawal Patil’s camerawork is alright. Gajanan Sontakke’s sets pass muster. Parag Sawant’s editing needed to be crisper.

On the whole, Free Hit Danka is a poor show all the way.

Released on 17-12-’21 at Citylight (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Sunshine Studios. Publicity & opening: weak.
