Multiplexes and single-screen cinemas in the state of Gujarat have been exempted from paying the fixed component of their electricity bills for the entire year from 1st April, 2021 to 31st March, 2022. This is in view of the heavy losses cinemas are facing due to the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
A decision to this effect was taken yesterday (20th July) by the Gujarat government’s core committee. The electricity supply companies, which will bear the extra financial burden, will be compensated by the state government. For this, the companies will have to complete some formalities regarding the exact amount of exemptions given towards the fixed charges. The application for the compensation will have to be made by the electricity supply companies to the Urja and Petrochemical department.
