A delegation of the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and single-screen cinemas of Maharashtra met Balasaheb Thorat, minister of revenue, this morning (June 9) to discuss the difficulties faced by the multiplexes and single-screen cinemas due to the pandemic and to request for relief in stamp duty, electricity, GST, property tax and wages of workers to sustain and resume the industry. The meeting was fixed through the good office of Ganesh Kumar Yadav, sr. vice president, INC. The delegation consisted of Kamal Gianchandani (CEO, PVR Pictures Ltd. and Business Planning & Strategy – PVR Ltd.), Devang Sampat (CEO, Cinepolis India), Alok Tandon (CEO, Inox Leisure Ltd.), Nambi Rajan (Aurora Cinema, Matunga, Bombay), Sharad Doshi (cinema owner and distributor), and Rajesh and Jay Vasani (Paras Publicity Service). Thorat assured that he would consider the demands in true spirits, take things forward and also talk with the chief minister and deputy chief minister of Maharashtra to fast-track the issues.
