MUSIC DIRECTOR VIJAY PATIL (RAAMLAXMAN) NO MORE | 22 May, 2021

Music director Vijay Patil (Laxman of the formidable Raamlaxman duo fame) passed away today (22nd May) in Nagpur due to heart attack. He was 78. He had got his second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine a few days back, after which he was feeling weak and tired. His doctor was treating him for the same but he breathed his last at 2 a.m. this morning.

Even after the demise of Surendra (who was the Raam of the duo) when they signed Agent Vinod in 1976, Vijay Patil continued to work under the name of Raamlaxman. In fact, many in the industry were not even aware that Raamlaxman was a duo or that the real name of Raamlaxman was Surendra-Vijay. Among the films Raamlaxman had scored music for are Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Humse Badhkar Kaun and 100 Days. Raamlaxman had composed the music for Marathi and Bhojpuri films, besides Hindi. In all, the music of around 100 films bore the name of Raamlaxman as the music directors. Vijay Patil suffered a brain stroke a decade ago, which made it difficult for him to compose music. He then shifted to Nagpur where he lived with his son.
