The Naaz cinema building (on Lamington Road at Grant Road) in Bombay, which once used to be the hub of Bombay distribution and exhibition trades, has been refurbished. It has been freshly painted and once again looks swanky enough for people to take note.
It had been in a dilapidated state for too many years, with almost nil maintenance. Slowly but surely, many distribution and exhibition offices in the building started closing down. The Coronavirus pandemic lockdown dealt the severest blow to the building as the property, already in dire straits before the lockdown, went from bad to worse. Most of the offices shut down permanently. About 20-25% offices were functioning but the remaining were closed. The cinema itself had become non-functional many years ago. But the exterior of the Naaz cinema building at least wears a fresh look today.
It may be mentioned here that the leakage problem has recurred in the last two-three days following the spell of heavy rains in the city. The lift in the building also got spoilt a couple of days back, but has reportedly been repaired.
