A special court recently convicted and sentenced a photographer, Nageshwar Rao, to one year’s imprisonment for molesting a teenager during a look test in 2015. The accused told the court that it was common in the field of acting to touch girls the way he had touched the aspiring actress. The court held that this indicated that it was not an accidental touch but rather it was a deliberate act… with sexual intent.
Rao was, however, acquitted of the stringent POCSO Act and found guilty under the IPC, as the prosecution failed to prove that the girl was a minor at the time.
