Just as the release of Ramesh Sippy’s Shimla Mirchi had been announced all of a sudden for 3rd January, 2020, equally suddenly has come the news that the film will be released on an OTT platform just three weeks after its theatrical release. Just last week came the news that Ramesh Sippy’s directorial venture, Shimla Mirchi, would hit the screens in the first week of the new year. The latest is that producers Viacom18 Motion Pictures have taken the decision to release the Hema Malini, Rajkumar Rao and Rakul Preet Singh starrer on an OTT platform on or around 26th January.
Sippy had directed this film after a very long break. His last release was Zamana Deewana (1995) before which had come his Akayla (1991). He had reportedly completed the film way back in 2014. It had been announced for release more than a year ago but the release plans had been put off without assignment of any reason. Then again, just last week, the film was announced for release on 3rd January, 2020 but this week comes the news that it will come on Netflix around 26th January. The satellite rights are with Colors and it seems, the film will be telecast on the channel pretty soon. Unlike Karan Johar’s Drive which was premiered on Netflix, Shimla Mirchi will at least have a theatrical release before coming on an OTT platform soon thereafter. Drive was directed by Tarun Mansukhani and starred Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez.
