Popular Tamil television actress and VJ Chitra Kamaraj was found dead under mysterious circumstances this morning (9th December) in the room of a hotel at Nazarethpettai in Madras. Her body was found hanging in the hotel room. She was 29 years old.
Chitra had in August this year been engaged to a businessman, Hemanth. She was in the hotel with her fiancé. She was shooting for popular TV show Pandian Stores in the nearby EVP Film City last night and had returned to the hotel room only around 2.30 a.m. She reportedly ended her life by hanging an hour later. Hemanth called the hotel’s housekeeping staff when Chitra neither came out of the bathroom nor answered his knocks on the bathroom door. She was found hanging in the bathroom when the door was opened with a duplicate key. The reason for her suicide is not known. The police are investigating. Her body was sent to Kilpauk Government Hospital for post-mortem.
Just hours before committing suicide, Chitra had posted her picture on Instagram with a lovestruck emoji. Her anchor-friend, Sharanya Turadi, had also shared videos from last night’s shooting, which Chitra reposted. In one such video, Sharanya can be seen telling Chitra that it was obvious, she was deeply in love and also addressing her as a lovebird. Chitra is seen dialling a number on her phone, probably Hemanth’s.
Chitra had endeared herself to the masses with her role as Mullai in Pandian Stores.
