VETERAN MALAYALAM FILM LYRICIST POOVACHAL KHADER PASSES AWAY | 24 June, 2021

Eminent Malayalam film lyricist and poet Poovachal Khader passed away on 21st June at 12.15 a.m. at the Thiruvananthapuram medical college due to COVID-19 complications. He was 73. He had written the lyrics for around a thousand songs in more than 350 films in a career spanning five decades. The prolific lyricist has some of the biggest hits and super-hits to his credit.

Poovachal Khader used to write poetry even during his student days and then went on to pen songs for stage and radio. He garnered attention from his early days in cinema. His two songs in the 1973 film Kattu Vitchavan – Neeyente prarthana kettu and Mazhavillinanjnathavaasam – were major hits. Then the songs of Ulsavam established him as a lyricist to reckon with.
