Without cinemas in Maharashtra reopening, can a good-content Hindi film prove to be a hit?
– Yes, it can! Like Punjabi films CHAL MERA PUTT 2 and PUAADA are doing wonders at the box-office in East Punjab circuit because they are being loved by the paying public, a Hindi film with good content can also prove a hit. Only thing, it may take double the time than what it would have taken in the pre-COVID days, for it to reach the hit mark.
Will the national multiplex chains agree to screen Thalaivii after the producer’s declaration that he will premiere it on OTT platforms just two weeks after its theatrical release on 10th September?
– It seems unlikely that the national multiplex chains will agree. The non-national multiplexes and single-screen cinemas will, of course, screen THALAIVII even if it would stream on OTT platforms two weeks after its theatrical release.
There are talks that after COVID-19, the age of superstars and box-office blockbusters is over. Do you agree?
– Not at all! This is as fallacious as saying that because men made do with just five or seven pairs of shorts and T-shirts during the COVID-19 lockdown, the sale of men’s clothes (jeans, shirts, formals, etc.) will reduce drastically. The era of box-office blockbusters will not end. And, therefore, superstars cannot be wished away.
