Classical vocalist Pt. Jasraj has been immortalised for the third time. A minor planet, till now known by the alphanumeric name 2006VP32, has been christened Pandit Jasraj after him. Jasraj already has a constellation and a piece of the moon named after him.
The announcement about the planet was made by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory on 23rd September. Pandit Jasraj is the first Indian classical musician to be honoured in this fashion. He joins a galaxy of Western classical celebrities like Mozart, Beethoven and Luciano Pavarotti, who were immortalised similarly.
