Sukalp Chitra and Big Brain Productions’ Cup Bashi (Marathi; UA) is a comedy about a 34-year-old man who is desperate to get married but when his mother, who believes in matching horoscopes, does find the perfect match for him, an unexpected problem shows up. Will Amruta (Pooja Sawant) and Jitu (Rishi Manohar) get married?
Vaibhav Chinchalkar’s story is quite interesting and offers itself to fun moments. But Chetan Saindanes’s screenplay is not very interesting or entertaining. The drama affords laughter but not as much as it should’ve. Chetan Saindane’s dialogues are reasonably nice.
Rishi Manohar does well as Jitu. Pooja Sawant is impressive in the role of Amruta. Nirmiti Sawant makes a fine mark as Jitu’s mother, Aruna. Anand Kale is quite effective as Shrikant Paradkar. Vijay Mishra makes his mark as Arun Karekar. Uma Sardeshmukh is alright as Saudamini Paradkar. Anand Ingle has his moments as Prof. Alaukik. Nayana Apte makes her mark as Aaji. Chinmay Shintre is so-so as Donga. Anant Jog makes his presence felt as Sudesh Bhosle. Others lend the required support.
Vaibhav Chinchalkar’s direction is ordinary. Uttam Singh’s music is fair. Lyrics (by Guru Thakur and Vaibhav Chinchalkar) are adequate. Deepali Vichare’s choreography is alright. Background music is impactful. Balu Dahifale’s cinematography is eye-pleasing. Mahesh Kudalkar’s art direction is appropriate. Ashish Mhatre’s editing is quite sharp.
On the whole, Cup Bashi is an average fare but its chances at the turnstiles are dull.
Released on 19-6-’26 at Plaza (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Sunshine Studios. Publicity & opening: dull.
