Padma Siddhi Films and Dream Sky Creations’ Phooli is the story of a young girl, Phooli (Riya Baluni). She wants to go to school to study but her father doesn’t allow it as they are poor. She resigns herself to her fate till a magician (Avinash Dhyani) enters her life. He shows her how to overcome the obstacles, and under his guidance, she is able to not only pursue her education but to also ultimately become an IPS officer. The magician teaches her his philosophy: ‘You are the ultimate magician of your life. Your hard work and perseverance are the main keys to the success you want to achieve.’
Avinash Dhyani’s story may be well-meaning but it is too philosophical and, if one may say so, impractical too. His screenplay is idealistic. The drama, therefore, fails to touch the heart. Emotions are conspicuous by their absence. Avinash Dhyani’s dialogues are okay.
Avinash Dhyani is average as the magician. Riya Baluni does an ordinary job in the role of Phooli. Suruchi Saklani is okay as the older Phooli. Prince Juyal passes muster as Parveen. Rishi Raj Bhatt provides routine support as Phooli’s father, Dillu. Sanjay Agarwal is ordinary in the role of Robin. Vijay Bhatt passes muster as the teacher. Bhagat Singh Ghusain is so-so as Kaka.
Avinash Dhyani’s direction is dull. His music is too ordinary to create any impact. Lyrics (Vinay Joshi, Megha Dhyani and Avinash Dhyani) are routine. Amit V. Kapoor’s background music is weak. Ramesh Samant does a dull job of the camerawork. Dhananjay Dhyani’s editing is loose.
On the whole, Phooli is a flop show all the way.
