The latest Spider-Man film, Brand New Day, created box-office history in India by netting Rs. 61 crore on the opening day, which, incidentally, was a Thursday (July 30). This is the biggest opening ever for a Hollywood film.
Obviously, it was the best opening for a Spider-Man film. The release was also the widest Hollywood release, with over 5,000 screens all over the country. The film was released in the maximum number of shows in India, including the shows programmed for Hindi films.
The achievement is more remarkable as the film reached the milestone collection figure on a working Thursday, underscoring the extraordinary demand for Spider-Man films among Indian audience. The film also registered the second-highest opening day for any film (including local films) released in India in 2026, next only to Dhurandhar: The Revenge which netted Rs. 90 crore on the first day (which was also a Thursday, March 19). Dhurandhar: The Revenge had had paid previews on the previous day (Wednesday, March 18).
The historic opening follows an extensive nationwide marketing campaign that transformed Spider-Man: Brand New Day into one of the biggest entertainment events of this year. Through a combination of large-scale spectacles, collaborations across sports, music and entertainment, creative partnerships with cricketers and actors, and immersive fan experiences, the campaign generated massive nationwide conversation and helped fuel extraordinary anticipation ahead of release.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been released by Sony Pictures Entertainment India in English as well as its dubbed versions — Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
