TAMIL FILM ACTRESS HELD IN HYDERABAD FOR HATE SPEECH AGAINST TELUGUS | 17 November, 2024

Tamil film actress Kasthuri Shankar, wanted in connection with her alleged hate speech against Telugu-speaking people, was arrested from a film producer’s house in Hyderabad on November 16. Two days after the Madras high court declined her anticipatory bail plea, the Egmore police in Madras tracked her down to Hyderabad. She will be brought to Madras and produced before a magistrate court to seek her remand in judicial custody.

Kasthuri was booked for making controversial remarks about the Telugu community during a public event in Tamil Nadu on November 3. Following her speech, multiple complaints were lodged in several districts, objecting to the derogatory comments about Telugu people’s ancestry.

Kasthuri had filed after her anticipatory bail plea was rejected on November 14. She had kept her cell phone switched off.
