PUSHPA JHUKEGA NAHIN, SAALA… ‘PUSHPA 2’ RUKEGA NAHIN, SAALA! | 12 December, 2024

The expected has happened. Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) has smashed so many box-office records that it is now crystal clear that it will turn out to be the biggest Hindi blockbuster of all times, as predicted by us in our review last week! In fact, if genuine collections of the earlier blockbusters are considered, it will probably surpass all the previous blockbusters by the end of the third week itself. And if one were to consider the inflated box-office collections (reported because of the so-called ‘corporate bookings’ or because of the shameless hunger of some producers to simply project their films as being bigger at the ticket windows than they actually were), Pushpa 2 may take a couple of weeks more to surpass their inflated business too! In other words, whether you compare the net collections of the Pushpa sequel with the real net collections of other films or with their inflated net collections, Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) will be the biggest of them all!

So, after a gap of less than two years, it is once again a South language dubbed film which will hold the record for being the biggest Hindi blockbuster. The record was held by Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (Hindi dubbed) from mid-2017 to early 2023 when Pathaan displaced it. In the same year, Gadar 2 outshone Pathaan and thereby became the biggest of them all. Soon thereafter, Jawan outdid Gadar 2, and it occupied the top chair. Stree 2 this year superseded the business of all the three films and became the number one film in Hindi. But with Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) on the anvil of surpassing the net collections of each of the aforementioned films, it will again be a Telugu dubbed film wearing the crown.

The first day (Rs. 65 crore), the first weekend (Rs. 268 crore), and the first week (Rs. 400-plus crore) records have all been broken by the Hindi dubbed version of the Allu Arjun starrer — that too, by a sizeable margin in each case. Whether it is multiplexes or single-screen cinemas, whether it is ‘A’ class centres or ‘B’ or ‘C’ class centres, the Hindi dubbed version has created history everywhere.

Writer-director Sukumar deserves kudos for writing such an extraordinarily commercial script, and narrating it so excellently just as Allu Arjun is worthy of all the praise for translating Sukumar’s vision, with a rare understanding, on to the screen. Sukumar has not forgotten to incorporate every aspect of the first part and tie all the loose threads before wrapping up the sequel. Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 can broadly be divided into three parts:
(i) the rise of Pushpa dizzy heights, in his business;
(ii) the personal life of Pushpa insofar as it concerns the relationship and bonding between him and his wife (ably played by Rashmika Mandana); and
(iii) the personal life of Pushpa insofar as it relates to the relationship between him and his step-brother.
While the first part (business of Pushparaj alias Pushpa) has ensured that the masses adore the film, the second and third parts have made the film a must-watch for ladies and the family audience. If the action climax has the masses whistling, applauding and cheering for Pushpa in the cinema halls, the emotional climax (Pushpa’s wife showing the wedding invitation card to him) has the weak-hearted crying copiously in the halls, minutes after the deafening applause of the action climax.

One doesn’t know which film will break the record for the highest collections once Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) achieves it in the coming days, but given that the margin between Pushpa 2 and the current record-holder is going to be huge, it can safely be assumed that the record is not going to be broken anytime soon!
