Telugu films’ superstar Allu Arjun was released from Chanchalguda prison in Hyderabad early yesterday (December 14) morning after spending a tension-ridden night behind bars, despite being granted interim bail by the Telangana high court in connection with a stampede at Sandhya cinema during the premiere of his latest Telugu blockbuster, Pushpa: The Rule Part 2, on December 4. He returned home yesterday early morning to emotional scenes.
Allu was arrested on the morning of December 13 along with three others in connection with the overcrowding at the cinema which resulted in a stampede that left a woman dead and her little son seriously injured. The two other accused were also granted interim bail and released on the morning of December 14.
While the high court granted Arjun interim bail for four weeks late on December 14 night, the jail authorities delayed his release due to procedural norms. The court’s order reached the prison around midnight. It is the established practice in all state jails to release prisoners the same day only if the bail order is received before 8 p.m. Any order received after 8 p.m. is processed the next morning at 5 a.m.
It may be mentioned here that the deceased’s family volunteered to withdraw their complaint soon after Allu Arjun was arrested as they felt, the actor was not responsible for the mishap.
On his return home, Allu said, he was alright and his sympathies were with the bereaved family.
