‘UDAIPUR FILES: KANHAIYA LAL TAILOR MURDER’ REVIEW | 8 August, 2025

Jani Firefox Films’ Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder (A) is based on the true-life murder case of a tailor in Udaipur.

Kanhaiya Lal was a tailor who lived in Udaipur. A Muslim friend posted a message from Kanhaiya Lal’s mobile phone, which irked Muslims so much that one Muslim actually killed the tailor.

Amit Jani and Bharat S. Shrinate have written a story which is based on the real-life incident that took place in Udaipur. Although the story is based on a real-life happening, which made headline news, it doesn’t quite appeal because it has not been written well enough. Jayant Sinha’s screenplay is ordinary and doesn’t have the desired impact which a hard-hitting story like this should’ve had. Amit Jani and Jayant Sinha’s dialogues lack fire.

Vijay Raaz does an excellent job as Kanhaiya Lal tailor. Puneet Vashistha is alright as Kanhaiya Lal’s friend, Nizam. Rajniesh Duggal is fairly nice as police inspector Ishwar Singh. Preeti Jhangiani is okay as news reporter Anjana. Kamlesh Sawant stands out in the single scene in which he appears as police inspector Rajveer. Mushtaq Khan is okay as police officer Yogendra. Ehsaan Khan, Kanchi Singh, Manoj Bakshi, Gagandeep Singh, Sandeep Bose, Naresh Gosai, Uday Utroliya and Rohit Choudhary do as desired.

Bharat S. Shrinate’s direction is ordinary. A more sensitive handling was the demand of the script. Music (Raaj Ashoo, Revan Aarti Singh and Jitendra Jawda) comprises two fairly well-tuned songs. Lyrics (Amit Jani and Bharat S. Shrinate) are average. Song picturisations are barely passable. Revan Aarti Singh’s background music is not up to the mark. Vasantha Kumar A.’s camerawork is ordinary. Amarnath Prabha and Vrushabh Sutar’s editing ought to have been sharper.

On the whole, Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder is a flop show.
