The Film Federation of India today (12th August) held a press conference to announce that it would soon start the process of selecting the Indian film which would go to the 98th Academy Awards (Oscars). FFI president Firdausul Hasan briefed the media about the process adopted by the FFI to finalise the film.
Besides Firdausul Hasan, others on the dais were IMPPA president Abhay Sinha, Ashoke Pandit, Dharmendra Mehra, Hirachand Dand and Sangram Shirke. Hasan told the media that the process of receipt of applications will begin on 15th August and will end on 10th September. He added that the FFI was in the process of forming the jury to select the film which will be nominated by India in the best foreign film category.
According to Academy rules, a jury of a maximum of 25 members should select the nominated film. The FFI rules permit the formation of a jury with a minimum of 11 members and a maximum of 19 members for selecting the Oscar nominated film. The screening of films will begin from 11th September.
Any film eligible to be sent for the Oscars should have had at least a week’s commercial run in Indian cinemas between 1st October, 2024 and 30th September, 2025.
