Actor Himalaya, husband of actress Bhagyashree, was arrested from his Jogeshwari (Bombay) residence in a gambling case at Andheri (Bombay) on 2nd July and released on bail soon thereafter. Himalaya’s role came to light after the police raided a gambling club being run in a flat in Lokhandwala Complex at Andheri on 11th June. Twenty-one persons had been arrested during the raid.
There was delay in arresting Himalaya as the police was waiting for confirmation that the club was being run by him and his partner, Karan Thakkar. Himalaya was arrested and then released on a cash bail of Rs. 5,000 at the police station itself.
It may be recalled that the Amboli (Bombay) police on 11th June raided a flat at Runwal Elegant Apartment on a tip-off that poker gambling was being played in the social club being run there. The police found cards, poker coins and Rs. 3.25 lakh at the club.
