‘ARTICLE 15’ BANNED IN ROORKEE | 6 July, 2019

The civic administration of Roorkee (in Uttarakhand) on 29th June banned the screening of Article 15, citing law and order issues. The ban was demanded by representatives of the Hindu Sena who said, the film portrayed a particular community in poor light. The Brahmin community also demanded a ban on the film as, according to the Brahmins, the film showed them in bad light. The film also faced opposition in Kanpur and in parts of Madhya Pradesh. In Kanpur, the screening was stopped on the day of release when fringe groups protested, but it was resumed on 30th June.
