Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia 2 (animation; dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; UA) is, as the title suggests, the sequel to Zootopia.
Some time after the events of Zootopia, Judy Hopps and Nick Wick Wilde have become partners in the Zootopia Police Department. Judy soon thinks that there might be a snake in Zootopia at the annual Zootential Gala being hosted by a family of lynxes who are descendants of Zootopia’s founder, Ebeneezer Lynxley.
At the party, Judy befriends the awkward Pawbert who is the youngest of the Lynxley family. Nick and Judy indeed find a viper which kidnaps the Lynxley patriarch and takes away an old journal detailing the creation of the weather walls. The viper convinces Judy that snakes aren’t bad animals. Judy and Nick soon get arrested for aiding the viper, who, incidentally, has escaped with the journal. Judy and Nick also escape to track down the viper. They meet a beaver, Nibbles Maplestick, who takes them to a place where many reptiles are hiding. This leads them on to a much bigger drama because the journal holds a key to the past that caused reptiles to be treated as outcasts in Zootopia. Following some drama, Judy and Nick find evidence of how reptiles used to reside peacefully in Zootopia. After some time, it emerges that the viper is Gary De’Snake who had escaped with none other than Pawbert. It is now Judy, Nick, Gary, Pawbert and Nibbles trying to reveal the truth about Zootopia and about snakes in Zootopia.
Jared Bush’s story is quite engaging and keeps the audience guessing about what’s next in store for them. His screenplay is fast-paced and interesting, but it does get boring at several places. Overall, the drama keeps the viewers entertained at places while boring them at other places.
The voice acting of most of the dubbing artistes is good.
Jared Bush and Byron Howard’s direction is quite imaginative. Although the duo’s narration is proper, there isn’t much in the film for the Hindi film-going audience. Michael Gacchino’s background music is alright. Cory Loftis’ production designing is of a fine standard. Animation is excellent. Editing is sharp. Dubbing is very good.
On the whole, Zootopia 2 is an ordinary entertainer with dull chances at the Hindi box-office.
Released on 28-11-’25 at Gemini (daily 3 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay by JioStar India Pvt. Ltd. Publicity & opening: dull. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak at many places.
