The Supreme Court on January 15 dismissed the plea of KVN Productions, producers of Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan (Tamil), for a censor certificate. It directed them to approach the Madras high court for relief on January 20.
The producers approached the apex court after the CBFC challenged a single judge’s order directing it to issue a ‘UA 16+’ certificate. A division bench reversed the single judge’s order.
Jana Nayagan was slated for release on Pongal, but had to miss the date because the CBFC did not issue it certificate due to objections to certain scenes. The dubbed versions of the film, Jan Neta (Hindi) and Jana Nayakudu (Telugu), also had to be postponed as they will be cleared by the CBFC only after the original is cleared.
