A court has ruled in favour of producer-director Karan Johar by directing YouTuber Ajey Nagar, also known as CarryMinati, to refrain from making “defamatory, vulgar, and abusive” content about Karan Johar. It also asked social media platforms to take down CarryMinati’s existing videos targeting Karan.
The interim order was passed by civil judge P.G. Bhosale in a defamation suit filed by Karan Johar against Ajey Nagar. Other parties including Nagar’s manager, Deepak Char, One Hand Clap Media Pvt. Ltd., besides Google and Meta, were named as defendants.
In his suit, Karan claimed that certain videos circulating on social media sought to ridicule him and damage his reputation and goodwill “painstakingly built over decades”. He sought a temporary injunction to restrain Nagar and his associates from making and uploading such clips. CarryMinati’s lawyer told the court, he had already deleted the clips and hence there was no cause of action left.
