An FIR was lodged against Bengali film actors Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee on May 21 for allegedly inciting post-election violence in 2021 through social media posts after Trinamool Congress swept the Assembly polls in West Bengal. The charges were filed under sections 109 and 153A of the IPC.
The case is based on a complaint from a lawyer, Joydeep Sen, who alleged that the posts stoked violence and led to the killing of a BJP worker in Calcutta hours later.
Investigators said that the notices would be sent asking the actors to join the probe. The two actors can move the court for relief.
