PUNJAB CONTEMPLATING LAW AGAINST SINGERS GLORIFYING DRUGS | 16 August, 2019

The Punjab tourism and cultural affairs minister, Charanjit Singh Channi, urged Punjabi singers to refrain from glorifying drugs and violence in their songs. He said, the state government was planning a law to curb the menace. In the recent Assembly session, the government said that it had requested the central government to allow the state to have a Censor Board to keep a check on songs.
The issue of glorifying drugs and violence has been a cause for concern since a long time. Punjabi folk singer Pammi Bai recently called on Channi to voice concern over the issue. He called for strict action against the singers promoting the trend and also called upon art and music lovers to create a people’s movement against the drug menace and for the social boycott of artistes glorifying drugs.
