The matter of Children’s Film Society (India)’s Chidiakhana was heard on 9th August too in the Bombay high court. It will be further heard on 23rd August.
On 9th, the bench of Justice Satyaranjan Dharmadhikari and Justice Gautam Patel told CBFC’s senior advocate, Rajeev Chavan, that the CBFC was stifling the interests of young minds.
The CBFC has offered the film a ‘UA’ certificate with some cuts. It told CFSI that more scenes would need to be cut if it wanted ‘U’ certificate. The CBFC counsel told the bench on 9th that a film does not necessarily have to be given ‘U’ where the characters are children. The counsel said, there was inherent violence in the film and hence it deserved ‘UA’. In response to the bench’s comment that the CBFC was inept in deciding what films can be seen by kids, the CBFC counsel asked the bench, “What is our job then?” The judges said, the court would look at the law.
