CREATIVITY, TENSION CAN NEVER GO HAND-IN-HAND: RAKESH ROSHAN | 12 September, 2020

There’s no better teacher than experience. You may learn a lot from text books but even they can’t teach you what experience can!

Rakesh Roshan, with all his years of experience, let out a gem when he told Information recently, “Creativity can never flourish in the midst of tension.” According to the maverick filmmaker, filmmaking is a creative pursuit that requires a relaxed mind. Without peace of mind, it is impossible for a director to give his film the best shot. “If I have some tension about my family or about anything else, I will never be able to shoot properly,” says Roshan, adding, “For shooting a good film, I have to be tension-free.” The hit filmmaker wonders why filmmakers are in such a hurry to launch films during the worldwide pandemic. “How can you shoot with unit hands, crew members and artistes roaming on the sets in face masks?”, he wonders. He further explains, “Such filmmakers are not making films out of passion, they are making films to only make money. And frankly, such films will not even make the money they were meant to make, because they will not be the best films, given the circumstances. There’s all the time in the world to make films once things return to normalcy.”

Probably, producers, directors and artistes, who are in a tearing hurry to launch new films, may like to pause and think before they jump headlong and start their films.
