The Calcutta police yesterday (8th May) registered an FIR against West Bengal state BJP president Dilip Ghosh and actor Mithun Chakraborty, accusing both of promoting enmity. The FIR was registered two days after a complaint was lodged with the Maniktala police station against the party president of the state, and the star campaigner. The Maniktala police drew up the case.
Trinamool Congress had claimed that both the leaders made provocative remarks during campaigning. The police have slapped IPC sections 153(A), 504 and 505, pertaining to promoting enmity between different groups, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, and public mischief against both. According to Mithun’s advocate, he will move the high court to quash the FIR.
