‘LUCK DOWN’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 25 February, 2022

Ishnav Media House’s Luck Down (Marathi; UA) is a comedy about a man who is born unlucky.

Vasu (Ankush Chaudhari) is low on luck right from his birth. Guruji (Sunil Godbole) has predicted good things for him if and only if he gets married and consummates his marriage before the age of 34.

Vasu gets married to Sapna (Prajakta Mali) just two days before he turns 34. However, he is unable to consummate his marriage because of one reason or the other. What happens finally?

Ravindra Mathadhikari’s story is funny and comical but it appears too stretched after a point. The screenplay, penned by Ravindra Mathadhikari and Santosh Ramdas Manjrekar, is interesting in parts. Some scenes look contrived. The climax is not the best part of the drama and does not afford the necessary thrill. Ravindra Mathadhikari’s dialogues are entertaining.

Ankush Chaudhari does very well as Vasu. Prajakta Mali is also very good as Sapna. Priya Berde lends good support as Vasu’s paternal aunt, Vatsala. Shubha Khote leaves a mark as Vasu’s paternal grandmother. Sanjay Khapre has his moments as Vasu’s maternal uncle, Madan Mama. Anand Ingale is alright as the other maternal uncle, Daji Mama. Milind Safai (as Vasu’s father), Sneha Raikar (as Vasu’s mother), Sanjay Mone (as Vasu’s paternal uncle), Omkar Raut (as Vasu’s cousin), Abhilasha Patil (as Vasu’s maternal aunt), Vanita Kharat (as Vasu’s cousin), Ruchira Jadhav (as Vasu’s sister-in-law), Sunil Godbole (as Guruji), master Ishan Phulpagar (as baby Shinchan), Mugdha Dhotre (as Dnyanada), Sameer Khandekar (as Mangu) and Yogita Chavan are adequate.

Santosh Ramdas Manjrekar’s direction is effective in parts. Avinash-Vishwajeet’s music is fair. A ‘lavni’ and a devotional song are the better ones among the lot while the others are ordinary. Lyrics (Ravindra Mathadhikari and Mandar Cholkar) are alright. Phulawa Khamkar’s choreography is quite eye-filling. Dhananjay Kulkarni’s camerawork is nice. P.Y. Manjrekar’s editing is fair.

On the whole, Luck Down is entertaining in parts but not good enough to make a mark at the ticket windows as it moves on a single track.

Released on 25-2-’22 at Metro Inox (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru August Entertainment. Publicity: okay. Opening: poor.
