HC ASKS FTII TO REVIEW FACULTY SUSPNSION FOR FACEBOOK POST | 31 March, 2022

The Bombay high court on March 30 directed the chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) to ask the Institute’s director to reconsider the suspension of a faculty member over an allegedly anti-government post made in 2019. A bench of Justices S.B. Shukre and G.A. Sanap said that prima facie, it appeared that faculty member Indranil Bhattacharya’s suspension was illegal. It directed the chairman to convey to the FTII director the HC’s prima facie view, and also said that an inquiry be initiated into the suspension incident.

Indranil Bhattacharya told the court that the director had not followed the due process in suspending him as the decision was solely his (the director’s).
