A day after her arrest on May 14, a Thane court remanded Marathi television actress Ketaki Chitale to police custody till May 18, for allegedly sharing an allegedly objectionable post about NCP chief Sharad Pawar on her social media account. Chitale, who lives in Navi Mumbai, was produced before the holiday court on May 15 under heavy security following alerts of NCP activists staging protests against her.
Ketaki represented herself in court and asked the court whether or not she had the right to express herself on a public platform. The Thane police said that they would analyse her social media posts to probe if she was instigated by anyone to upload the matter and also try to track the person in whose name the post was first uploaded. Chitale has a similar case registered against her at Rabale (Thane) police station in 2020.
The NCP has decided to file complaints against her across the state to harass her. FIRs had already been registered against her at Goregaon and Bhoiwada police stations in Bombay on May 14, and at Nerul police station in Navi Mumbai on May 15. The Pune cyber police have registered a case against the actress, based on a complaint by NCP local office-bearer Babasaheb Patil. Another FIR has been filed by the Pimpri Chinchwad police.
