‘RRR’ SONG NAATU NAATU WINS GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD FOR BEST ORIGINAL SONG | 11 January, 2023

The new year has started on a phenomenal note for the Indian film industry with the Naatu Naatu song from S.S. Rajamouli’s RRR winning the Golden Globe award for the Best Original song. The vigorous song, which had the nation dance to its beats when the film released in April last year, was shot in Ukraine. Its music was composed by M.M. Keeravani. Besides Keeravani, the others from the RRR team who attended the prestigious awards function were Rajamouli, Ram Charan and Jr. NTR. Keeravani accepted the prestigious award.

No less than the Prime Minister of India tweeted a congratulatory note on the victory. Rihanna, who was in contention for the award which finally went to Keeravani, congratulated the RRR team on the win.

Interestingly, the Naatu Naatu (Nacho Nacho in the Hindi dubbed version) song was dubbed a gay song by a viewer in the USA, because it is picturised on the two heroes of the film, that too, often holding hands while dancing on it. The said viewer wrote on social media that the film was an Indian gay love story, following which collections of the film there picked up!

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) hosts the grand Golden Globe Awards every year, honouring the top talents in various categories in films and shows. Journalists, who cover Hollywood news the world over, are made members of the HFPA and are allowed to vote for the nominees at the Golden Globe Awards. Each member of the HFPA is sent a ballot with a list of all the eligible films. They have to select five nominees for each category by ranking their choices from 1 to 5. Each voting member casts his/her vote privately, after which the final ballots are tallied by Ernst & Young. In other words, none of the members is aware of who is nominated until the announcement is made. No member also knows the final winners till they are declared.
