‘DAS KA DHAMKI’ (DUBBED) REVIEW | 14 April, 2023

Vanmaye Creations and Vishwaksen Cinemas’ Das Ka Dhamki (dubbed from the Telugu film of the same name; UA) is the story of a waiter and his girlfriend.

Krishna Das (Vishwak Sen) is a waiter in a hotel. He falls in love with Keerthi (Nivetha Pethuraj). He pretends to be affluent in front of her. Dr. Sanjay Rudra (Vishwak Sen), a look-alike of Krishna Das, is the CEO of a pharmaceutical company which has invented a drug to free the world of cancer. Just before Dr. Rudra is to introduce the miracle drug in the market, he dies in an accident. To save the pharmaceutical company, Sanjay’s uncle (Rao Ramesh) brings the look-alike Krishna Das in Dr. Rudra’s place. Meanwhile, Keerthi had gotten to know the truth about Krishna Das’ job as a waiter. What happens thereafter?

Vishwak Sen and Prasanna Kumar Bezawada have written a story and screenplay, which are not promising. Although the first half has some interesting light moments, the post-interval portion is hackneyed and also predictable. Some of the many twists and turns look contrived and put the audience off. One has seen double-role films earlier too, and this one borrows heavily from the past such films. Dialogues are ordinary.

Vishwak Sen does a fair job in a double role. He is better in the light scenes, but he fails to make a mark after interval. Nivetha Pethuraj is so-so as Keerthi. Rao Ramesh is alright as Dr. Rudra’s uncle. Tharun Bhascker lends ordinary support. Akshay Gowda is okay as Deepthi. Hyper Aadi makes a mark as Krishna Das’ friend, Aadhi. Mahesh Achanta is okay as Krishna Das’ friend, Mahesh. Ajay (as Dhanunjay), Rohini, Prudhvi Raj, Rajitha, Duvvasi Mohan, Muralidhar Gaud, Kadambari Kiran, Rajini, Shaurya Kare, Rati Hulji and Amith Sharma provide routine support. Pranati Rai Prakash is okay in a special appearance in the item song ‘O dollar’.

Vishwak Sen’s direction is not up to the mark. Music (Leon James and Ram Miriyala) is ordinary. Lyrics are nothing to shout about. Song picturisations are routine. Background music ought to have been better. Camerawork (Dinesh K. Babu and George C. Williams) is fairly nice. Anwar Ali’s editing is loose. Dubbing is okay.

On the whole, Das Ka Dhamki is a flop show.

Released on 14-4-’23 at Premiere Gold (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru UFO Cine Media Network. Publicity & opening: weak. …….Also released all over.
