Writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar told the Bombay high court that actress Kangana Ranaut’s petition to stay the defamation proceedings filed by him against her was an attempt to delay the proceedings. He, therefore, urged the court to dismiss her plea.
Javed Akhtar had filed a complaint against Kangana as he was aggrieved by her remarks to a television news channel in relation to a 2016 meeting between them. Ranaut filed a cross-complaint against him. Her petition said that both the complaints must be tried together to avoid conflicting judgements. A bench led by Justice Revati Mohite-Dere on January 9 directed the high court registry to verify if the assignment to hear such matters was with a single bench or a division bench.
