NEW RELEASES DISAPPOINT

All the new releases of this week, including GAME CHANGER (Hindi dubbed) and FATEH, disappointed as far as initials were concerned. The reports of the films are not exciting enough to warrant a huge jump in collections.

Kraven The Hunter (dubbed and the original English versions) could not do much after a dull start on January 1 (Wednesday). In fact, collections crashed after the first two days. Following a total collection of Rs. 0.80 crore for the first two days, it netted only Rs. 0.90 crore in the first week. Grand total for 9 days: Rs. 1.70 crore.

Pyar Mein Qurban met with a disastrous fate in 1st week all over.

The Rabbit House proved to be a non-starter in the first week. It collected very poorly all through the week.

Baby John nose-dived in the second week. It netted barely Rs. 2.60 crore in 2nd week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 34.60 crore. It is out of almost all the cinemas.

Marco (dubbed) was rock-steady in its third week. Rather, it collected slightly better in 3rd week than in its second week. It netted Rs. 4.75 crore in 3rd week, taking its grand total for 3 weeks to Rs. 9.57 crore.

Mufasa: The Lion King (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) dropped more than 70% in 3rd week. It netted approximately Rs. 12.75 crore in the third week. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 117.75 crore.

Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) did fairly well in the fifth week too in spite of a noticeable drop. It netted Rs. 2.50 crore on the first day of the fifth weekend. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 4 crore and Rs. 4.75 crore respectively, taking the fifth weekend total to Rs. 11.25 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.95 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.60 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.45 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 6.50 crore. Hence the total for 5th week was Rs. 17.75 crore. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 750 crore.

‘BABY JOHN’ BOMBS, ‘MUFASA: THE LION KING’ SCORES, ‘PUSHPA: THE RULE PART 2’ (HINDI DUBBED) STILL STRONG

KRAVEN THE HUNTER (dubbed and the original English versions) opened on Wednesday (Jan. 1) but did not reap the advantage of the festive occasion. It collected only 0.80 crore in the first 2 days.

Baby John fared miserably in the first week after a poor debut on Wednesday (December 25). After collecting a total of Rs. 14 crore for two days (Wednesday and Thursday), it netted Rs. 3.50 crore on Friday. Collections increased to Rs. 4 crore on Saturday while the total for Sunday was Rs.3.50 crore. After a weak weekend of only Rs. 11 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.25 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was a pathetic Rs. 7 crore. Hence the total for the first week was Rs. 18 crore. Grand total for 9 days: Rs. 32 crore only. The film will entail heavy losses.

Barroz (dubbed) turned out to be a disaster in the first week all over.

Vanvaas netted barely Rs. 1 crore in 2nd week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 4.80 crore.

Marco (dubbed) picked up in 2nd week due to strong mouth publicity. After collecting only Rs. 0.32 crore in the first week, it netted Rs. 2.50 crore in the second weekend, and another Rs. 2 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for 2nd week was Rs. 4.50 crore, a fourteen-fold jump over the first week! Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 4.82 crore. The poor start last week and the huge jump in the second week underline two basic principles: poor promotion of and awareness about a film can result in a disastrous initial, and great content can sometimes make up for lack of promotion once the word of mouth gains strength and the film is continued in the cinemas.

Mufasa: The Lion King (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) was quite steady and did well in 2nd week too. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 5.50 crore. Collections jumped to Rs. 9 crore on Saturday. The figure for Sunday was Rs. 10 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 24.50 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 4.65 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 5.40 crore, Wednesday (New Year’s day) – Rs. 7.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.20 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 19.75 crore. In other words, the total for 2nd week was Rs. 44.25 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 105 crore.

Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) continued to be strong in the fourth week too. It joined the Rs. 700-crore club in the fourth weekend itself. It started the 4th weekend with a take of Rs. 6 crore on Friday. Collections increased to Rs. 8 crore on Saturday, and further jumped to Rs. 10.25 crore on Sunday. After a fourth weekend total of Rs. 24.25 crore, its total till Sunday was Rs. 708.50 crore. Its collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 5.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 6.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 8.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 3.50 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 23.75 crore. Hence the total for 4th week was an amazing Rs. 48 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 732.25 crore.

Moana 2 (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) did fair business in its fifth week. It netted Rs. 1.80 crore in 5th week, taking its grand total for 5 weeks to Rs. 28.35 crore.

Rukhwat (Marathi) bombed at the box-office all over Maharashtra in the first week.

Dharmarakshak Mahaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj (Marathi) was alright in its sixth week in Maharashtra.

‘BABY JOHN’ DISAPPOINTS, ‘PUSHPA: THE RULE PART 2’ (HINDI DUBBED) CONTINUES TO RULE

BABY JOHN proved to be a disastrous fare which did not even open to great houses despite its release on the festive occasion and holiday of Christmas (25th December, Wednesday). Unbelievable as it may sound, the collections of PUSHPA: THE RULE PART 2 (Hindi dubbed) on the sixth day of the third week (21st day as it opened on Thursday, 5th December) were better than the collections of BABY JOHN on its first day! After a net collection figure of Rs. 9.50 crore on day 1, collections dropped by more than 50% on the second day which closed at Rs. 4.50 crore only. While it cannot be denied that the second day was neither a Friday nor a holiday and, therefore, collections were expected to drop, the over-50% decline was a bit too much because the start itself (Rs. 9.50 crore) was dull.

Vanvaas proved a debacle in the first week. It collected approximately Rs. 2.50 crore in the first weekend and another Rs. 1.30 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the first week closed at a dismal Rs. 3.80 crore despite the Christmas holiday on the sixth day.

Outhouse met with a disastrous fate in 1st week.

Marco (dubbed) collected poorly in the first week despite appreciation, as awareness about the release was low.

UI (dubbed) turned out to be a major flop in the first week.

Mufasa: The Lion King (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) did very well in the first week. Collections of the Hindi dubbed version were as good as those of the original English version, thanks to the dubbing of Mufasa by Shah Rukh Khan. The film netted Rs. 7.50 crore on the opening day. Collections shot up to Rs. 10.50 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 14 crore on Sunday. After a first weekend total of Rs. 32 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 5 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 6.50 crore, Wednesday (Christmas holiday) – Rs. 11 crore, Thursday – Rs. 6.25 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was an impressive Rs. 28.75 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 60.75 crore in the first week.

Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) continued to rule in the third week also. It held sway over the audience in spite of the release of Baby John on 25th December. The third weekend started with a take of Rs. 10.50 crore on Friday. Collections shot up to Rs. 18 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 25 crore on Sunday, taking the third weekend’s total to Rs. 53.50 crore. By the end of the third weekend, the film had become the biggest Hindi blockbuster with its total net collections being Rs. 641.50 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 9.75 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 9.50 crore, Wednesday (Christmas holiday) – Rs. 15.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 8 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 42.75 crore. Hence the total for 3rd week was Rs. 96.25 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 684.25 crore.

Moana 2 (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) did fair business in its fourth week. It collected Rs. 2.20 crore in 4th week, taking its grand total for 4 weeks to Rs. 26.55 crore.

Hashtag Tadev Lagnam (Marathi) did very ordinary business in 1st week in Maharashtra.

Shri Ganesha (Marathi) bombed in the first week all over Maharashtra.

Dharmarakshak Mahaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj (Marathi) was quite good in its fifth week too in Maharashtra.

‘PUSHPA: THE RULE PART 2’ (HINDI DUBBED) CONTINUES TO SHINE, BREAK RECORDS

Zero Se Restart proved to be a zero at the box-office in its first week. It was an experiment which failed. It netted barely Rs. 30 lakh in the first week. The appreciation matched the collections as both were poor.

Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) continued to smash box-office records and create new ones in its second week too. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 26 crore on Friday. Collections took a huge jump on Saturday which closed at Rs. 43 crore. There was a further jump on Sunday when it collected Rs. 51 crore. In this way, the total for the second weekend was a whopping Rs. 120 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 19.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 18.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 16 crore, Thursday – Rs. 13 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 67 crore. So the second week closed at Rs. 187 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks (15 days): Rs. 588 crore. The film will surpass all the previous Hindi blockbusters in the third weekend itself and claim the top chair!

Moana 2 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) was very steady in its third week. It netted Rs. 4.60 crore in 3rd week. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 24.35 crore.

The Sabarmati Report collected around Rs. 1.25 crore in the fifth week. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 32.85 crore.

Dharmarakshak Mahaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj (Marathi) was very steady in 4th week in Maharashtra.

‘PUSHPA: THE RULE PART 2’ (HINDI DUBBED) SMASHES ALL RECORDS, SET TO BECOME BIGGEST BLOCKBUSTER EVER!

Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed) broke all the box-office records in its first week to emerge a blockbuster of epic proportions! The original Telugu version is also doing extraordinary business and so are the other dubbed versions. Not just in India but the film is shining Overseas too. The Hindi dubbed version netted Rs. 65 crore on the first day (Thursday, December 5). Collections on Friday reduced around 15% so that the day closed at Rs. 55 crore. Saturday saw a spike in collections so that the day closed at Rs. 68 crore. The film was on a rampage on Sunday as it netted Rs. 80 crore. No other film has ever collected so much in a single day. After the highest ever 4-day weekend of Rs. 268 crore, collections for each of the four weekdays were also historic: Monday – Rs. 42 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 35 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 30 crore, Thursday – Rs. 26 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was an astounding Rs. 133 crore. In this way, the film netted Rs. 401 crore in the first 8-day week. This is the first film to join the Rs. 200-crore club in 4 days only, the Rs. 300-crore club in 5 days only, and the Rs. 400-crore club in 8 days only! The original Telugu version alone grossed around Rs. 300 crore in the first week while the dubbed versions of the South languages grossed around Rs. 150 crore. The worldwide total 8-day gross of all the versions put together is more than Rs. 1,000 crore.

Moana 2 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) dropped markedly (about 65%) in its second week due to the strong opposition of Pushpa: The Rule Part 2. Yet, it managed to collect Rs. 5.15 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 19.75 crore.

The Sabarmati Report fell almost 75% in the fourth week, netting approximately Rs. 2.35 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 31.60 crore.

Dharmarakshak Mahaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj (Marathi) fell about 60% in 3rd week in Maharashtra, of course, because of the hurricane called Pushpa: The Rule Part 2 (Hindi dubbed).

‘PUSHPA: THE RULE PART 2’ RULES, RECORDS BIGGEST EVER OPENING

PUSHPA: THE RULE PART 2 ignited a fire which spread to every nook and corner of the country… and abroad too! The PUSHPA: THE RISE PART 1 sequel opened on Thursday (December 5) and in spite of an odd-day release, that too, without a holiday, the film shattered the record for the biggest opening, grossing Rs. 280 crore worldwide. The Hindi dubbed version netted Rs. 65 crore on the first day, surpassing the record-holder, JAWAN, which had netted Rs. 63 crore on its opening day. Points to note: while JAWAN had a saturated all-India release, PUSHPA 2 had a very token release in the Southern states as it was made in Telugu and dubbed in the South languages, besides Hindi. Secondly, since the PUSHPA sequel has a running time of 3 hours and 20 minutes, its per-day shows in single-screen cinemas as well as in multiplexes were less than the per-day shows of JAWAN which had a more ‘cinema-friendly’ length. Going by the initial and the public reports, PUSHPA: THE RULE PART 2 (Hindi dubbed) is poised to join the ranks of the biggest Hindi blockbusters like STREE 2, JAWAN, GADAR 2 and PATHAAN. In fact, it just might turn out to be the biggest Hindi blockbuster ever.

Delhi Bus met with a disastrous fate in the first week.

The Sabarmati Report was very steady in 3rd week. It collected around Rs. 6.25 crore in the third weekend. The total for the weekdays was approximately Rs. 2.25 crore. Hence the total for 3rd week was Rs. 8.50 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 29.25 crore.

Singham Again did very ordinary business in 5th week. It netted approximately Rs. 3.60 crore in the fifth weekend, and Rs. 1.25 crore during the weekdays. Hence the total for 5th week was Rs. 4.85 crore. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 229.75 crore.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 did fair business in its fifth week. It collected Rs. 5.75 crore in the fifth weekend, and another Rs. 2.75 crore during the weekdays, taking its total for 5th week to Rs. 8.50 crore. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 232.70 crore.

NEW RELEASES SHOW SCANT PROMISE

Both, KANGUVA (dubbed) and THE SABARMATI REPORT, opened to ordinary/dull houses on Thursday/Friday… In the rarest of rare cases, a film which was leading in the first week lost to the film which was trailing in its first week. In other words, the tables were turned in 2nd week. SINGHAM AGAIN, which was ahead of BHOOL BHULAIYAA 3 in the first (Diwali) week, was overtaken by the latter film in the second week. In the final tally too, BHOOL BHULAIYAA 3 is very likely to supersede the collections of SINGHAM AGAIN. The difference may not be huge but when compared with the cost of the two films, the collections of BHOOL BHULAIYAA 3 would turn out to be far better.

Kanguva (dubbed) opened on Thursday (November 14) to dull houses. The big-budget action film netted barely Rs. 3.25 crore on the opening day.

Ella fared miserably in the first week all over.

Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 202.75 crore. Although the film has entered the Rs. 200-crore club, the drop is so alarming that there is not much reason to celebrate.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 collections fell 60% in the second week but the collections were still creditable. The film netted Rs. 32 crore in the second weekend and another Rs. 23 crore during the weekdays. In this way, the total for 2nd week was Rs. 55 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 191.50 crore. It will enter the Rs. 200-crore club today (Saturday, November 16) itself.

Venom: The Last Dance (dubbed and the original English versions) collected Rs. 4.50 crore in the third week in spite of the oppositions of Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which is impressive. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 42.60 crore.

Manmauji (Marathi) could not do anything noteworthy in the first week in Maharashtra.
