’JIGRA’, ‘VICKY VIDYA KA WOH WALA VIDEO’ DISAPPOINT

’DEVARA PART 1’ (DUBBED) DISAPPOINTS, DULL AFTER FIRST WEEKEND

Binny And Family found very little appreciation and fared poorly in the first week. The film, released in just around 130-140 cinemas, could collect barely 1.35 crore in the first week.

Devara Part 1 (dubbed) opened to average houses on Friday (September 27) but dropped markedly after the first weekend. Collections picked up on October 2 due to the Gandhi Jayanti holiday but the jump was not at all encouraging. It netted Rs. 8.30 crore on the first day. Collections increased marginally to Rs. 8.85 crore on Saturday because the word of mouth was not positive. The increase was better on Sunday which closed at Rs. 10.25 crore. After a first weekend total of Rs. 27.40 crore, collections on the weekdays (except for Wednesday, Gandhi Jayanti holiday) were alarmingly low: Monday – Rs. 3.45 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.70 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 5.65 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.85 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 14.65 crore. Hence the first week closed at Rs. 42.05 crore.

Yudhra crashed in the second week.

Stree 2 joined the Rs. 600-crore club in its seventh week. The film netted Rs. 1.09 crore on the first day of the week. Collections on Saturday and Sunday increased to Rs. 2.20 crore and Rs. 2.75 crore respectively. ORDINARY START OF ‘DEVARA PART 1’ (DUBBED) STUNS TRADE

The very ordinary initial of DEVARA PART 1 (dubbed) yesterday (27th September) shocked the trade. More than the poor collections in the shows of the earlier part of the day (which, incidentally, picked up as the day progressed), it was the weak public report which was disturbing for the trade. The first day closed at Rs. 7 crore plus.

Yudhra fared badly in the first week. It netted Rs. 4.52 crore on the first day as it got the benefit of the National Cinema Day when ticket prices were low. However, collections on Saturday (Rs. 1.79 crore) and Sunday (Rs. 2.15 crore) were dull. After a weekend total of Rs. 8.46 crore, collections on the weekdays were dismal: Monday – Rs. 0.74 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.67 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.61 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.58 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was only Rs. 2.60 crore. Hence the first week closed at only Rs. 11.06 crore.

Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam fared miserably in the first week all over, collecting only Rs. 2.35 crore.

Dhaaak met with a disastrous fate at the box-office in 1st week.

Transformers One (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) performed poorly in 1st week. Its total for the first week was only Rs. 3 crore.

The Buckingham Murders (English-Hindi and dubbed Hindi versions) netted terribly poor collections in the second week, falling more than 70%. Netting only Rs. 2.30 crore in 2nd week, it took its grand total for 2 weeks to Rs. 10.65 crore.

Stree 2 almost touched the Rs. 600-crore mark in its sixth week! It started the sixth weekend with a take of Rs. 5.20 crore on Friday. The National Cinema Day helped the film. Collections on Saturday were Rs. 3.80 crore while on Sunday, they totalled Rs. 5.32 crore. Therefore, the sixth weekend closed at Rs. 14.32 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 1.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.35 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.30 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.25 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 5.40 crore, the sixth week closed at Rs. 19.72 crore. Grand total for 6 weeks: Rs. 595.52 crore. This makes it the biggest blockbuster of Hindi cinema if only the Hindi version’s collections of Jawan (Rs. 580.04 crore) are considered. However, if collections of the Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions are also taken into account, Jawan had netted Rs. 640.35 crore which Stree 2 may not be able to touch.

Khel Khel Mein is on its last lap. It collected Rs. 1.05 crore in 6th week. Grand total for 6 weeks: Rs. 43.65 crore.

Navra Maza Navsacha 2 (Marathi) scored excellently in the first week all over Maharashtra.

Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 4.68 crore.

Stree 2 was the one-horse race in its third week too! It entered the Rs. 500-crore club in 3rd week, making it the third franchise film to do so — after Bahubali 2: The Conclusion and Gadar 2. Its third week started with a net collection of Rs. 9.25 crore. Collections almost doubled on Saturday which closed at Rs. 17.40 crore. The total for Sunday was an outstanding Rs. 22.10 crore. ‘STREE 2’ MANIA CONTINUES

Problem Toh Hai was nothing but a can of problems as it failed to do anything worthwhile anywhere, in the first week.

Alien: Romulus (dubbed and the original English versions) fared poorly in the first week. It started the first week with a take of Rs. 0.74 crore. Despite the slow start, collections did not shoot up in the weekend. The total for Saturday was Rs. 1.10 crore while that for Sunday was almost the same at Rs. 1.07 crore. In just 2 weeks, the film joined the Rs. 400-crore club and is now approaching the Rs. 450-crore mark. In Gurgaon, it became the first film to net Rs. 1.20 crore on the second week’s Saturday! ‘STREE 2’ EMERGES BIGGEST BLOCKBUSTER OF YEAR SO FAR

Stree 2 is on a record-breaking spree. Right from the word ‘go’, it went on a box-office rampage, smashing old records and establishing new ones. It is easily the biggest blockbuster of the year so far and also genuinely the biggest grosser without an A-list star. Released on Thursday (August 15) to take advantage of the Independence Day national holiday, it netted a phenomenal Rs. 52.40 crore on the first day. Its paid previews in the evening and night shows on 14th yielded a collection total of Rs. 8.60 crore which itself was super-impressive. Collections on Friday were Rs. 32.20 crore while the unbelievable totals for Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 45 crore and Rs. 55 crore respectively. The dream collections continued on Monday too owing to the Raksha Bandhan festival holiday. The fifth day closed at Rs. 37.50 crore. As if the extended 5-day holiday weekend (when the net collections totalled Rs. 230.70 crore (including paid previews) were not enough, collections on Tuesday were also excellent. The sixth day closed at Rs. 25.25 crore. The total for Wednesday was Rs. 19.75 crore while the last day (Thursday) of the first week closed at Rs. 18 crore. In this way, the 8-day total (plus paid previews) was an earth-shattering Rs. 293.70 crore, which is more than the lifetime collections of each and every film released in 2024 so far. The horror comedy sequel joined the Rs. 300-crore club yesterday (August 23, the first day of the second weekend) itself. At the rate at which the film is weaving its magic, it seems set to touch the Rs. 400-crore mark by the end of the second week or in the third weekend!

Khel Khel Mein won appreciation from the classes but did not appeal to the masses. Hence the collections in the first week were far from healthy in spite of the holiday weekend. After netting only Rs. 5.50 crore on the first day (Thursday, August 15) despite the Independence Day holiday, the film could collect only Rs. 12.50 crore in the 4-day extended weekend (again, in spite of the Raksha Bandhan holiday on Monday) and another Rs. 4.50 crore during the weekdays, taking the 8-day week’s total to Rs. 22.50 crore only. The film will entail heavy losses to all concerned.

The marriage of mass subject and class handling in Vedaa went against the film which, therefore, netted dull collections in the holiday week. After a lukewarm initial of just Rs. 6 crore on Thursday (August 15) despite the national holiday, the actioner netted only Rs. 8.75 crore in the extended 4-day weekend (again, in spite of the Raksha Bandhan holiday on Monday) and a further Rs. 3.25 crore during the balance three weekdays. In this way, the first 8-day week closed at Rs. 18 crore only. Heavy losses to all concerned are now a certainty.

Double Ismart (dubbed) proved to be a box-office dud in the first week.

Deadpool & Wolverine (dubbed and the original English versions) started its fourth weekend with a take of Rs. 0.32 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 0.51 crore and Rs. 0.55 crore respectively, taking the total for the fourth weekend to Rs. 1.38 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday (Raksha Bandhan holiday) – Rs. 0.21 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.15 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.13 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.13 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 0.62 crore. In this way, the total for 4th week was Rs. 2 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 128.41 crore.

‘STREE 2’ CREATES HISTORY

STREE 2, which opened on Thursday (15th August) due to the Independence Day holiday, wrote box-office history by opening beyond all expectations. The STREE sequel was expected to take a great initial but the net box-office collection total of Rs. 52.40 crore on the first day was historic for a film of this canvas. In paid previews on the previous day (14th), the film netted Rs. 8.60 crore. Collections on Friday (16th) were also phenomenal at Rs. 32.20 crore. The total for the first two days (including paid previews) was, therefore, an astounding Rs. 93.20 crore!!

On the other hand, KHEL KHEL MEIN took an unimpressive start on Thursday in spite of the Independence Day holiday, losing out to STREE 2. Its total of Rs. 5.50 crore on the first day was less than an eighth of the total of STREE 2. Collections fell on Friday (16th) as reports were below the mark except among the classes.

The third major Independence Day release, VEDAA, also opened below expectations at Rs. 6 crore. Although the figure was not bad for a John Abraham starrer, it was below the mark for a national holiday release. Its collections dropped on the second day as reports were not up to the mark.

Ghuspaithiya, as expected, fared poorly in the first week all over.

The public seemed to have emulated Aliya to remain gayab from the cinemas screening Aliya Basu Gayab Hai through the first week.

Ulajh could not sustain itself in 2nd week after a poor first week. It collected Rs. 2 crore in the second week. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 9.10 crore.

Deadpool & Wolverine (dubbed and the original English versions) did average business in the third week, mainly in the weekend. The third weekend started with a take of Rs. 1.70 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 3.20 crore and Rs. 3 crore respectively. Hence the total for the third weekend was Rs. 7.90 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.95 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.90 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.84 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.54 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 3.23 crore. In this way, the third week closed at Rs. 11.13 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 126.41 crore.

Bad Newz is in its last lap. It did average business in the fourth week, netting Rs. 2.75 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 66.28 crore.

Kalki 2898 AD (dubbed) has almost completed its run in the cinemas. It still netted Rs. 2.75 crore in the seventh week. Grand total for 7 weeks: Rs. 291.90 crore.
